Blog #1: Technology in the Classroom

What influences teachers and students to use technology in the classroom? From the teacher perspective, the influence to use technology comes from administration and the desire to reach students in a way they will understand. Administration encourages teachers to use as much technology as they can to help students learn how to use it. Also, digital books, homework, and other resources are more environmentally friendly and may also be less expensive. Teachers are pushed by this and a desire to reach students in a way they will not only enjoy, but also understand. In such a technology driven society, students not only know how to use most technology, but enjoy doing so. From the student perspective, using technology in the classroom is easier and more convenient, and much more enjoyable. Hey y'all! My name is Callie Schlabach, and I am a freshman studying English Education at Florida State University. This blog is for my Introduction to Education Technology class, so feel free to follow along as I learn how to incorporate technology into my future classroom! I am originally from Sarasota, Florida, home of some of the most beautiful beaches in the nation. I am passionate about reading, writing, dogs, food, and crafts (who doesn’t love a good DIY project?). If I’m not in class, I’m either volunteering, reading on Landis, or laughing somewhere with my friends. Before this class, I have not had too many chances to use technology in an educational setting. Although I used SMART boards in elementary school, the middle and high school I went to did not use that technology. I have used Powerpoints in presentations and have used both Word and Excel to help with assignments in class, but when I have been acting as the “teacher,” the only technologies I have used would be ...
