Blog #0: Introduction
Hey y'all! My name is Callie Schlabach, and I am a freshman studying English Education at Florida State University. This blog is for my Introduction to Education Technology class, so feel free to follow along as I learn how to incorporate technology into my future classroom! I am originally from Sarasota, Florida, home of some of the most beautiful beaches in the nation. I am passionate about reading, writing, dogs, food, and crafts (who doesn’t love a good DIY project?). If I’m not in class, I’m either volunteering, reading on Landis, or laughing somewhere with my friends.
Before this class, I have not had too many chances to use technology in an educational setting. Although I used SMART boards in elementary school, the middle and high school I went to did not use that technology. I have used Powerpoints in presentations and have used both Word and Excel to help with assignments in class, but when I have been acting as the “teacher,” the only technologies I have used would be Powerpoint and one of the fancy computers teachers at FSU use. Aside from digital technologies, I have also used whiteboards and books.
As I hope to be a high school English teacher one day, I hope to be able to learn ways to incorporate technology in my classroom that are not incredibly conventional. I feel like the times I have enjoyed technology the most have been the times when I have been surprised at how it is used. I want the technology I use to engage students and help them master the topics I teach in class, and to take them further into their exploration. Also, having a solid, basic understanding of different technologies will be incredibly helpful, even though I am fairly comfortable with technology already.
I’m looking forward to this semester!

Hi Callie, I also agree with wanting technology to make the students more engaged. I think technology can definitely help students to master topics because it makes lessons more interactive. Super excited to see what you learn in this class!
