Blog #3: Standards, Tools, & Newsletters

I looked at the ELA standards for 9-10 grade, and I was surprised at how many of the standards I think I could tackle! The first standard (determining meanings of words) and the third standard (looking at the same story in different mediums and analyzing them) were two that stuck out to me. Not only do I enjoy doing both, but they are things I happen to do often in some classes that I am currently taking. The resources they provided were also nice to look at, as I can incorporate them into my classroom for more interactive learning. However, one standard in particular caught my eye as something I need to work on— integrating quantitative data and technical analysis. I have never been great at analyzing data, so that will be one thing I have to work on as I further my education.

I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of content available through CPALMS! There a vast amount of resources for all grade levels and subjects, as well as links to standards you should be hitting. As a future teacher, it’s nice to know that there is a place where all of this is together. One resource I found in my Educator Toolkit (for 9-12 Language Arts) that I thought was helpful were the instructional resources. Sometimes, teachers are stumped to come up with instructional materials, and they take a long time to find, too! Fortunately, CPALMS has links to lesson plans and virtual manipulative to make my lessons super fun! I am a big fan of CPALMS, and am excited to use the website in the future!

Below, I have the newsletter I made for EME2040. I am a big fan of the color scheme, but I think I would like to try something more adventurous next time with brighter and bolder colors. The organization is pretty nice and I am a big fan of a calendar, but I may try a different layout in the future to find something that works even better for me. While I am not a big fan of the column function, it proved to be very useful in creating my newsletter, and I would probably use it again! All in all, I had a lot of fun creating my newsletter, and although I'll likely use a template in the future, it was very fulfilling to create my own!

  2. I really loved your newsletter, it was so neat and appealing to the eye! I thought it was cool to see the standards for 9-10th grade because they are completely different from my interests yet I still feel like I could teach some of them if needed.
