Blog #6: Classroom Websites, Professional Responsibilities, & Tech Sandbox!

TEACHER CLASSROOM PAGES

I chose to look at the teacher pages from my elementary school, Tatum Ridge Elementary School, in Sarasota, Florida. I loved Tatum, and thought it would be fitting to use their teacher pages for this assignment.

PAGE ONE: Shannon Wynne, 5th Grade

Mrs. Wynne was my third grade teacher! In her class, we performed a play every year, and she was such a fun and animated teacher. There isn’t much information available to the public: how many years she’s been teaching, her degrees, and the atmosphere of her classroom.

PAGE TWO: Jackie Davenport, 2nd Grade

Mrs. Davenport was my brother’s second grade teacher, and her daughter is one of my friends from high school. Her page is a little different from Mrs. Wynne’s. She includes how long she’s been teaching and her degrees, but she also talks about how much she loves teaching about how she has always wanted to be a teacher. The information is dated, as her daughter has graduated now and her son is not in seventh grade anymore.

PAGE THREE: Deb Smith, 1st Grade

There is no information.

All of the teachers’ pages have no picture of the teacher or pictures in general, but they include all of their contact information (emails, fax, phone number). They are all identically laid out as shown below. You can find the link to their website here.

PROFESSIONAL RESONSIBILITIES

Technology not only makes professional responsibilities easier, it makes them more efficient. In my classroom, I plan to use Turnitin to check for plagiarism (instead of me having to dig through each cited source). I will also use emails or a blog to send out updates to students and parents. I also think it would be cool to use Twitter to send out updates for students or use as a more interactive journaling. I'd also like to scan documents for records instead of keeping them on paper. By doing this, my classroom will not only be more eco-friendly (let's save the planet, y'all!), but it will be more accessible, easy, and efficient for all parties involved.

TECH SANDBOX

The Tech Sandbox was so cool! All of the technology there is so neat, and I really can't believe things like this exist! One of the technologies I was intrigued by were 3D pens. In a high school English classroom, I could use 3D pens to supplement journaling. In the first few minutes of class, I can have students make an object/drawing with the pens and then write about it. Then, students can share about it. Not only is it fun and lets students use their creativity, it incorporates writing and public speaking.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! SEE Y'ALL TUESDAY!

  1. Hi Callie!
I think using turnitin in your classroom is an awesome idea! Especially for high school students. They need to become familiar with this app and use it a number of times before college! g

  2. Hey Callie, I did the same thing and looked at my old school for class websites! I love the idea of using 3d pens to supplement journaling. A lot of students like to doodle why they journal so they can have something to actually supplement their writing but have fun doing as well. Great idea!

  3. Hi Callie! My old school actually didn't have specific teacher pages which I found interesting. I also really enjoyed using the 3D pens. I think they allow students to learn while also being creative in the classroom!

  4. I also thought tech sandbox was super interesting and showed a lot of great technologies that can be used in the classroom. I think smartboards and VR are super good ways to get students involved in the learning process.
