Blog #8: Diigo, Bloom's Taxonomy, and Professional Development
DIIGO
Diigo is so helpful! I actually just wrote a paper and used Diigo to organize all of my sources. In my high school English classroom, I could use it to save helpful resources for lessons, or have students use it to organize and annotate sources for a research paper. With team members, making a group that you can share sources in and actively collaborate within those sources is super helpful. In my individual professional efforts, saving helpful resources (blogs, research, news articles, etc.) that would help me develop as a teacher would be very useful. Overall, I really like Diigo! I'm going to continue using it outside of class.
BLOOM'S TAXONOMY
PowerPoint can be an incredibly powerful tool for helping students learn. Looking at Bloom's Taxonomy can help us see the benefits of it.
Knowledge: Slides can help give information to students, presenting it in a way that is easy for note-taking and learning.
Comprehension: You insert videos that help further understanding and comprehension of the topic, and also present the information in a new way.
Application: Discussion questions can be added to a PowerPoint so students can work with others to figure out how to apply the information.
Analysis: Group work (maybe through teams and questions added on the PowerPoint) can help analysis. Or through a more interactive PowerPoint that allows for students to answer and ask questions, maybe like solving a mystery or going on a treasure hunt.
Synthesis: PowerPoint is really fantastic because it allows for easy combination of past materials. You can use new slides to ask questions and/or present ways the new information fits with the old one, with easy visuals to make the understanding easier!
Evaluation: A teacher can have quiz questions inserted in the final slide of the PowerPoint that students answer to help evaluate the understanding of the topic.

Staying up-to-date with how to use technology in the classroom is a real struggle. Sometimes, we don't know how to integrate technology into a certain lesson or if we can use technology in our class at all. Fortunately, sites like these make it easy. They help teachers share how they use technology and the new technology coming out. I know I would be interested in reading it!
That's all for this Thursday! See y'all Tuesday!

I agree that staying up to date can be a struggle. In the times of today things change so quick so its hard to always know how to do something or make something. I think the website you linked would be an amazing way to stay in touch!
ReplyDeleteWhoa! I had no idea that you could use Diigo to organize your sources for a paper that you've written! That's such a helpful aspect of Diigo that I had no clue was possible. It really just goes to show that there is more that meets the eye to certain applications and technologies that we don't know much about.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is so smart to use Diigo to organize the sources in your paper. I definitely will be doing that for my next one! Also, that is a really good site for keeping up with technology; I looked at it, and I definitely will be using it in the future.
